Pfeiffer Beach, Dawn
Life is full of obstacles that may seem opaque, but the way is often opened, if only a little, by those who have gone before. Be grateful for those trailblazers and be not afraid to follow their lead.
Popular photographs of this place are taken during the mid-winter months, when the setting sun is framed by the small aperture at the bottom of this massive sea stack.
I am motivated by gorgeous images taken in unusual light and seek to make images of bits of this beautiful Earth in a different style. I find direct light from sunset or sunrise is too often a component of landscape images. Predictability is to be avoided. This is, of course, not to say that the majesty of sunrise and sunset is lost upon me, quite the opposite, but light is light and beauty is beauty and there is more to dramatic and successful imagery than sunset, sunrise eyecandy. It's either that or I feel gorgeous meetings of land and sea deserve to be photographed in their robe of violet gloaming.
