Ships passing in the night

To the edge of the world.

I will be traveling to see the Grand Canyon this holiday. I plan to stand on the edge of that yawning chasm in the middle of the night and bring back whatever the cold Arizona night is willing to give up. My very best to you and yours and I wish you all a very safe and very happy end to 2012—I hope to have something special posted to mark the coming of 2013 before the New Year—so I'm not signing off just yet!

Fall was ending and the top of Hawk Hill was buzzing with locals and tourists alike. They, like we, had come to see a southern sun light the city on the bay. Afterward, as night closed in and the city donned her pearls of tungsten and sodium vapor to fend off the violet cool, I made a few images of the lumbering giants navigating the straight. What a sight to come to after a long voyage, and what a heartsore sailor it must be who leaves this jewel for the frigid bosom of the sea on such an evening.
